We Ain't Them
ArtistChildish Gambino + Ludwig
this is my fave Childish Gambino song to date. i listen to it daily. it feels like home. not the same way Outkast does but, that energy. or maybe…since he is also from the South…the “culture of honor” thing connects us all? i don’t know, who cares. those heavy drums + bass that drop in, book-ended by the smooth in/out…so dope. and DG is giving me all kinds of story and truth while maintaining his signature smart/sincere/fun style. i would have listened to this in my discman as a tween, bumped it in my no-AC-having car in high school and used it as fashion show inspiration in college. now i play it when i need a writing break and/or a dose of “do ya thing…don’t stop.”
also, the more i come to adore Donald Glover, the more i want to work with him. for our first project, we should write and star in a story about a best friend duo who start a classy prostitution ring at our ivy-league school. we’ll trade our slutty and willing friends for things like internships/grades/concert tickets. and when one of us wants to go rogue and start making real cash, we’ll argue and everyone in the audience will be devastated because they will have completely fallen for our character’s ethnically ambiguous appeal, in spite of our obvious flaws. there will be a dance number and amazingly awkward sex scenes. since we all know you can’t be smart, wealthy and good at sex.
DG, get at me.
